Abstract
The course of electrical stimulation of the muscles of lower extremities in the patients with peripheral atherosclerosis resulted in the enhancement of exercise tolerance manifested as a significant increase of the six-minute walk distance (p = 0.001). In addition, the patients of the study group reported increased force and endurance of the muscles of lower extremities (by 38-48% and 69-140% respectively) that was absent in the control group. It is concluded that electrical stimulation of the muscles of lower extremities should be included in the combined rehabilitative treatment of the patients presenting with peripheral atherosclerosis.
